Contact & referrals

Start with a phone call. It costs nothing.

No referral letter, no diagnosis, no forms before you have spoken to a person. Twenty minutes with a therapist, and then you decide whether to do anything at all.

Where the contact details would be

In the real version of this practice, this panel carries the telephone number, the general mailbox, and a second address that goes straight to the young people's counsellor.

Send an enquiry

Interface demonstration. It validates what you type and draws its confirmation state. It transmits nothing: there is no form element behind it, and nowhere for a message to go.

In the real version this is where the practice would ask you not to write detailed medical information into a web form.

Who is getting in touch?
About you

In the real version, this is where the reply would come from.

If you would rather we rang you.

About the child or young person

Roughly is fine. Put your own age if you are enquiring for yourself.

A few lines is plenty. "School mornings have become impossible and we have run out of ideas" is a perfect enquiry.

Practicalities

Nothing will be sent. This interface has no form element, no destination and no network request. Pressing the button validates what you typed, draws the confirmation state, and clears the fields.

Or simply ring

In the real version, this is the number, and Mel answers it. She is not a therapist and will not ask you clinical questions. If she is with someone, leave a message — she returns them the same day.

The building is quietest on Friday mornings, when we meet as a team, so sessions do not run then.

What would happen next

What happens next, and when

Written for the real version of this practice, so that nobody is left refreshing an inbox wondering whether it arrived.

Within one working day

Mel replies by whichever route you used, to arrange a phone call with the right therapist.

Within a few days

The free twenty-minute call. A therapist, not an administrator, and no obligation at the end of it.

Usually 2–4 weeks

A first appointment. If the wait is going to be longer we say so on the call rather than leaving you hoping.

If we are not right

We say so, and name somewhere that might be. Roughly one enquiry in six ends this way, and that is a good outcome.

Where families come from

We are in Stroud, and most families are within half an hour

We do not have branches and we are not a network. This is one building with three rooms in it. Families travel to us from across the Five Valleys and the surrounding towns — journey times are on the Our Space page.

  • Stroud
  • Nailsworth
  • Painswick
  • Stonehouse
  • Cirencester
  • Gloucester

Online sessions are available for young people aged 13 and over, and for parent consultations, which sometimes suits families further out.

If you need someone right now

Harbour is not an emergency service and we do not read email overnight. These people are there when we are not.

  • Samaritans116 123 any time, free
  • ShoutText SHOUT to 85258 text support, 24/7
  • Childline0800 1111 under 19s, free
  • NHS 111111 choose the mental health option
  • Emergency999 if someone is in immediate danger

Not ready to send anything yet?

Plenty of people read this site three times over a fortnight before they contact us. That is a completely normal way to do it.
